It’s been four months since my first big walking adventure in Portugal/Spain. Already before arriving home from that adventure rised the idea of living another one, this time in Brasil and for a longer period of time. It took me a bit over a month to take the final decision and book a ticket to Sao Paulo and start making it real. Now the adventure has already started as I am on my way to the airport in Buenos Aires to take that flight which I booked a couple of months ago and which I have already postponed in the meantime. It’s always nice when a trip starts and the planning and waiting is over. It’s a process which makes me nervous causing the actual travelling to be a bit of a relief from the preparative stress. I am feeling that relief right now as I am in the first stage of my adventure. Tomorrow afternoon I should be arriving in Franca from where I will start my walk two days later. I will be following the route of the Caminho da Fé, a pilgrimage inspired by the Camino a Santiago, and which meanders on the border of the Brazilian states of Sau Paulo and Minas Gerais.

The pilgrimage ends in Aparecida, home of the black Madonna, considered to be one of the most important patrons of Brasil. I hope to arrive after about 4 weeks of walking and having covered over 600 kilometers, quite a bit more than the 350 I walked to get to Santiago. If time and conditions permit me to do so I might even continue walking all the way to Ubatuba, a town on the coast which I have had the pleasure to stay in a couple of months seven years ago together with my parceiro, Angie, whom for sure is joining me somehow on this journey.
